The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has approved the establishment of Wakaf Universiti Malaya, by the decision of the Wakaf Education Committee Meeting of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (JWP-MAIWP) No. 1 the Year 2018, which convened on October 10, 2018.
The appointment of Universiti Malaya (UM) as Mutawalli for the implementation of wakaf is effective from the date of the Education Wakaf Agreement between MAIWP and UM which was signed on 13 March 2019.
1. To enable UM to generate its revenue by collecting waqf.
2. Assist UM students and staff, as well as PPUM patients who require financial assistance.
3. Provide financial support for academic and physical development activities such as studies, research, publications, medicine, and other related activities.
4. Provide opportunities for community members to participate in the University of Malaya's Wakaf as a waqf (donor waqf or waqif).
The Waqf of the University of Malaya is administered by the Treasurer's Department's Financial Planning Division.
Waqf matters, investments, and development of waqf properties have all been scrutinized by the University of Malaya Waqf Committee, as well as monitored by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), which is the sole trustee of waqf properties under national law.
The waqf chooses the category of waqf, which is waqf general, waqf special or waqf property.
